Matt and Lisa - an evening of indulgence!

Some people like to relax in a spa (so do I!), others like to go away on a short break (so do I!) and some like to spend the day at Alton Towers (and yes again so do I). However last week I decided I was going to treat myself to a day of indulgence.... on my business and take time out to take my photography to the next level....so I called the lovely Steve Gerrard and booked a One2One workshop!

It felt very indulgent as the day was geared to my needs and requests I really wanted to understand the detail in using artificial light in a variety of ways, off camera, video light and of course the fabulous techniques of light painting.....I was not disappointed!

After Steve and I had spent hours discussing shots, techniques and how he runs his business, Matt and Lisa joined us so I could go out, try everything out and play with Steve very much there to discuss and hold my hand a little (metaphorically speaking!)...We had a blast and Matt and Lisa were just the perfect couple for this shoot, plenty of patience and willingness to try it all! Whilst a fair bit of the start of the shoot involved me holding lights and talking through it all...so much got cemented in my head. I got to then try it all myself and I am now going to be doing a great deal more of this kind of work! The light painting was soooooo much fun with Steve and I moving like Jedi around Lisa and Matt with torches and lights, I shall be doing this a great deal more! 

The last shot is my favourite as we finally managed to time the traffic lights and catch a bus going by! Fabulous effect...but shhhhh don't tell anyone!

Sneak Peek - Pre-wed evening shoot with Lisa and Mark at Cannock Chase

Lotty Blue - A vintage commercial shoot

I don't do too many commercial product shoots really as it's people I love to photograph, rather than product alone, but when LottyBlue got in touch and asked if I'd do some product shots, we got chatting and discovered there was some fun to be had with this shoot and so I agreed.

Lotty Blue sells mid-century, modern retro and vintage furniture and homewear. It was the homewear we were focussing on bringing the fabulous aprons, oven gloves, cake tins, clocks, teapots and mugs alive with a vintage feel.  Kelly Middleton owner of The Cupcake Queen in Stafford provided beautiful vintage style cupcakes and the wonderful Sarah Lyndsey modelled for us - she had the perfect look we wanted.

So prepare yourself for a little 'Stepford Wives' meets vintage inspired products and away we go!

A few words from Lisa, 'I live in Stafford I am married with two children I have theatre /fashion background and have  a BA in Theatre Design where I specialised in scenic and prop design. I now use these skills in my restoring and upcycling of vintage furniture .

LottyBlue (http://lottyblue.co.uk) specialises in mid-century modern furniture (mainly 1950's through to the 1970's), but I must admit I have soft spot for G Plan - I so adore the early G-Plan pieces. I think the 'Brandon Range' is particularly iconic with it's unique style and is still practical for today's modern home.

As well as sourcing classic vintage furniture I also stock modern contemporary items with a nostalgic influence that have a mid century feel. During 2011 LottyBlue will be adding many new items to our shop but just to give you a taste of things to come I will mention just some of our new suppliers:
 
One of this years new additions is a new range of fabrics and oil clothes from the Betty Boyns vintage inspired collection .The vintage inspired fabrics are just beautiful and so very stylish but also contemporary in there look for today's modern home. I have blogged further about Betty Boyns here

Martin Wiscombe is well known for his nostalgic painting and his work depicts images of life of the 1950 onwards and we have many items of homeware with pictures of his art. I am particularly fond of his images of split screen camper vans as I have written about on my blog


Also I am  delighted to be stocking a new range of vintage themed homeware by Ulster Weavers, the range includes Vintage Aprons and delightful homeware

All in all LottyBlue has something for everyone who loves vintage and traditional items.'

Laura and Graham - Pre-wedding shoot at Birmingham University

Laura and Graham are adorable and I really enjoyed my time with them on our pre-wedding shoot. Laura and Graham wanted to do their pre-wedding shoot at Birmingham University as that was where they met, perfect I thought and I have to say I loved the location, fab backdrops and a lovely atmosphere! We were also blessed with fabulous weather. Very much looking forward to their wedding at the scrumptious Botanical Gardens.....oooodles of gorgeousness for this lovely couple.

Business Portrait - Kim Nash...The Book Worm!

Kim is nothing short of a wonderful person, the most helpful person, one of the busiest women I know and a natural networker.....oh and a fabulous Mum to 3 year old Oli!  She runs her own monthly networking event in Cannock, works as a marketing co-ordinator at Passionate Media and writes reviews for Have a Lovely Time.  Phew! But there is even more to Kim....and it's not a secret,  she is a complete ' Book Worm!' and now has a blog to prove it.

Kim has a love of 'chick lit' and decided to start her own blog, Kim The Book Worm and there are many who are very pleased she did!

 I have photographed Kim before and so the whole process was much easier this time as Kim knew what to expect and she was much more comfortable in front of the camera. It was very informal, just at her home, where she does her reading and reviews.

Commercial and business portrait shoot - Growing Rural Enterprise Ltd

I first met Julie about 18 months ago, not only is she a fabulous business woman but she, along with Joyce Bullock runs the WiRE Lichfield group and together they are a force to be reckoned with, inspiring and supporting women.  So it was no surprise to me when I was asked to photograph Julie and her business partner Nick that Nick would be equally as fabulous, laid back, professional and fun to be with.

Julie and Nick have worked together for thirteen years and they really help rural businesses gain focus and grow. They, through their business Growing Rural Enterprise Ltd facilitate rural projects connected with learning, work life balance, personal and rural business development. Such a varied and valued business, so we had plenty of scope and got to work.

I was a little excited to be invited to meet them at Woodhouse Farm in Whittington where they chose to have their shoot, a wonderful farm with the most gorgeous walled garden and bluebell patches....heaven to me with so many colours and textures to play with!

Maisie and Jay - Lifestyle portrait session

I just love it when families come back for more photographs to be taken. It's a priviledge to see how much they can change in a short space of time.  I first photographed Maisie and Jay when I had the studio at home and we had a fun session with the bright lights and the white background. However....this time a few weeks ago we went out to play on location and got these two playing, exploring and generally having fun whilst I took the photographs!

The pay off for a few posed shots for mum, was that they could be cheeky on camera too and the deal worked really well as you will see. We may not have great british summers too often but I have to say I love the mixture of the fabulous colour The Chase offers teamed with the vibrant colours kids wear.....wellies and all!

Family Shoot - Happy 75th Birthday Irene!

I love it when families get together for a special occasion and this shoot was a great excuse for 4 daughters (Fae, Claire, Ruth and Kim)  to get together with their mum for a bit of a photo session to mark such a fabulous time in their lives...mum turning 75! I was made to feel so at home at Fae's house where we did the shoot, the atmosphere was full of laughter and these guys truly are a close family!

Irene is a fabulous woman and was very relaxed through the whole couple of hours and the girls were great and really got into it all, combine this with the fabulous natural light in the conservatory....and well we giggled, laughed and really had some fun. They were great company!

Paul and Ester - pre-wedding shoot

Paul and Ester have been together for 8 years and Paul popped the question in a very romantic way in September last year, whilst in Mauritius on holiday (we love a good romantic proposal!) They got themselves into gear pretty quickly and are actually getting married next Saturday - who says you can't get it all done in less than 6 months!  

Last week you may remember we had fabulous weather on Thursday morning (no doubt it will be etched in your minds as it is so rare these days!) and Paul and Ester came up to my new offices in Lichfield for their pre-wedding shoot.

We decided to pop round the corner to the fabulous Lichfield Cathedral for the majority of the shoot. It is simply gorgeous there, I love the textures and colours that make such a wonderful backdrop for a shoot like this.

Paul and Ester are getting married at The Marston Farm Hotel in Sutton Coldfield and I am delighted to be photographing this fabulous couple on their special day. Ester is clearly going to be a stunning bride!
